Be Brave, Be True!

I was fed up! Mostly with myself. I wondered if I wrote BE TRUE on my wrist if I would see it often enough to remind myself to stop trying to please the whole world? I was 39 years old and still had not figured out that being me was enough. I was trying to learn that if it wasn’t enough it wasn’t my problem. I figured writing it with sharpie would get old so why not just tattoo it.

I had gotten a tattoo when I was 18 on my hip and it was the most painful thing I’ve ever endured….at that time (fast forward, having babies is a bit more). As I considered the idea I liked it more and more. So, for my 40th birthday I tattooed be true and be brave on my wrists. When I arrived for my appointment, the front door to the shop was open and I could hear the whirring of the needle as I walked up, I almost turned around and left. However, I decided if I was tattooing be brave on my wrist this was the time to start.

A year later I was sitting in a Starbucks trying to decide on a name for my new idea, a retreat business. I was working on a business plan where I would raise $700,000 to purchase a home and furnish it lavishly so I could run retreats. I was typing away about what the atmosphere would be like. I wanted it to be a place of peace and solitude for people to come and learn to love food and be pampered. I wanted it to be a place of contentment, to be warm and inviting, to be peaceful and relaxing.

As I stopped typing for a moment and relaxed my hands, I caught sight of my tattoos. I burst out crying as I realized it should be…. A place to BE. I had started this whole circle by being true and brave to my idea! I wanted people to come and BE themselves.

That November I met Pam. I didn’t raise the money and I didn’t get the house, but it brought me something better. If I hadn’t written it I may not have said in the last few minutes of our meeting together…”I also kind of had this idea and wrote a business plan for retreats”. We may never have started our adventure together.

We encourage women to be brave and be true to taking care of themselves so that they can take care of the world around them. Where we have taken our business is beyond my wildest dreams. And I’m so excited for where else it’s going to go.

Our mission is to create a safe place to empower CEO women to focus on their health – the key they need to grow their wealth!
